PROGRAMS & PARTNERSHIPS
The Ayana Group has programs that help enrich, empower and educate the youth. All of our programs are made possible through strategic partnerships with established organizations. We proudly provide these programs to the youth in our community between the ages of 7-18 years old.
ONE-TO-ONE MENTORING
Our unique partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters started in 2016 and gave us the ability to create a mentoring program tailored to the Chaldean community. We offer one-to-one mentoring, in which a child facing adversity is carefully matched with a caring adult mentor in a relationship supported by professional Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members. This program helps children achieve success in school, helps them avoid risky behaviors such as getting into fights and trying drugs and alcohol, and helps them improve their self-confidence. We seek to change the lives of children facing adversity between the ages of 6 to 17 years of age.
YOUTH SUMMER CAMPS
Our strategic partnership with the San Diego County YMCA provides exciting educational and recreational activities, field trips, challenges, art, and more. Campers will learn some of life’s most necessary skills, like resiliency, positivity, adaptability, relationship-building, and caring for others. There are programs offered for all youth of all ages.
CAREER & SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Through our partnership with the JA Ambassador program we are able to host a 10-week virtual program that provides foundational knowledge of the local economy, personal finances, career pathways, and work-readiness. In concert with San Diego business leaders, JA’s Ambassador program creates a platform for participants to gain the necessary skills to thrive in San Diego’s economy. This program is designed for high school students.
SPORTS
We have partnered with a number of local sports programs to create opportunities for our local youth to join. These sports include basketball, soccer, baseball, gymnastics and swimming. All of these sports give our youth the opportunity to learn the following life skills.Respecting
yourself, your teammates, coaches, referees and parents. Good Sportsmanship – No one is going to win every game. It is good to know how to be supportive of your teammates and congratulate the other team no matter the circumstances. Leadership – In team sports, coaches will constantly
be looking for the traits of a good leader. The ones that can help motivate your team to never
give up, even when you’re down. Organization – Sports requires you to be on top of your game,
both literally and physically. Are you getting enough of the right food? Are you getting enough
sleep? Can you balance your games, your practices and your schoolwork and still have time to
just be a kid? You learn how to schedule out your day (with the help of your parents), so you can
eat, get to class on time, study, do your homework and not be late to that important practice or
game. Accountability – Playing sports, you are held to a standard by both your coaches and your teammates. You are expected to give 110% during practices and games and do everything that you can to reach your highest potential. This is very important when working with others in a group or team setting because it will show your peers that they can trust and rely on you to do your part in being successful. Communication – Communication is the key to playing any sport. You cannot
win unless you communicate. On the field, it can help the shyest of kids interact and socialize with
their teammates and help you feel more confident during class presentations.
MUSIC LESSONS
We have partnered with various music teachers to provide all types of activities. From voice classes, piano and trumpet all the way to a flute we can offer exciting music lessons. There are many benefits to music. Different studies have proventhat the comprehension of music and instruments can benefit a child’s overall mental development. Figures show that students who study music are more successful on standardized tests and are also likely to achieve better grades in high school. Further research revealed that musical training physically develops the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing language and reasoning. Playing an instrument or being in a musical class demands total attention. Because of this, music is a great stress-relieving tool that helps to calm the mind and enhance concentration.
